Pilar Martin Martin

Associate Professor at the University of Alcalá and Director of this Master. With a PhD in Telecommunication Engineering, she has extensive international research experience in AI, computer vision, and robotics, applied to communications and industrial systems. She has collaborated with leading universities and coordinated more than 16 national and industry projects. Author of multiple scientific papers, books, and chapters, she bridges research with practical applications in technology and industry. As Director, she is committed to shaping a program that combines academic excellence, innovation, and strong industry connections.

PhD in Civil Engineering (University of Exeter, UK) and is completing a second PhD in Advanced Computing, Energy and Plasmas (University of Córdoba). He is Assistant Professor at the University of Alcalá and Visiting Professor at Politecnico di Milano, with more than 50 JCR-indexed publications. His research applies machine learning and AI-based models to renewable energy, climate extremes, and digital twins for energy systems. He has led national and international projects, including collaborations with Iberdrola and the Royal Society, and contributes to the ITU AI4NHs working group. Recognised with several awards, he was named Best Young Researcher at UAH in 2024.

Associate Professor at the University of Alcalá, with active research in AI-driven signal and audio processing. He has co-led numerous national and European projects on intelligent acoustic surveillance, smart sound processing, and passive sensor fusion for critical infrastructure protection. His work includes collaborations with industry leaders such as Indra, Tecnatom, and Innerspec, applying AI to real-world communication and defence challenges. At UAH, he teaches voice, audio, and statistical signal processing, linking advanced AI tools to practical applications. Full Professor at the University of Alcalá in the Department of Signal Processing and Communications. He holds PhDs in Telecommunication Engineering and in Physics, and leads the research group on Modern Heuristics and Network Design. His work focuses on machine learning, soft computing, evolutionary algorithms, and explainable AI, with applications in renewable energy, atmospheric physics, and communication networks. He is the author of more than 240 scientific papers in leading journals. His projects apply AI and hybrid optimization methods to real problems in science, industry, and engineering.

Full Professor at the University of Alcalá and PhD in Telecommunication Engineering (UAH, 1998). His research focuses on statistical signal processing and AI methods applied to communications, acoustic signal analysis, and intelligent surveillance. He has published 82 JCR-indexed papers, 15 book chapters, and over 200 international conference contributions. He has led or participated in more than 80 research projects, including European FP7, H2020, Horizon Europe, and industry collaborations with companies such as Indra and Tecnatom. Full Professor at the University of Alcalá with extensive experience in radar, signal processing, and telecommunications. She has led numerous European, national, and industry-funded projects in areas such as passive radar, sensor fusion, and defence applications. Her research includes collaborations with institutions like the European Defence Agency, NATO, and major technology companies. She has coordinated multiple courses in telecommunications, radar, and remote sensing, and currently teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She holds four active research sexennia and one in technology transfer, reflecting her strong academic and applied research trajectory.

Full Professor at the University of Alcalá since 2011, with five recognised research sexennia, including one in technology transfer. His research focuses on AI, computer vision, and intelligent robotics, applied to assistive technologies, smart navigation, and traffic systems. He has collaborated extensively with industry partners such as Telefónica, CEPSA, and Intelligent Data, as well as with public institutions. He has led and participated in numerous national and European projects on AI-based mobility, pattern recognition, and intelligent systems. With more than 200 scientific publications, 3,000 citations, and 4 research sexennia, she is an internationally recognised expert in artificial intelligence, automated planning, evolutionary computation, and machine learning. She has led over 30 national and international projects, including collaborations with ESA, NASA, and Airbus, and holds 2 patents. Her research applies AI to energy systems, healthcare, robotics, and smart grids. She combines a strong academic record with extensive experience in technology transfer and industry collaboration.

Associate Professor at the University of Alcalá (UAH) since 2003 and is a member of the GEINTRA research group. She has led or contributed to nearly 80 research projects, published extensively in international journals and conferences, and co-authored several patents and utility models. She co-directed the Clover Research Chair on Intelligent Systems for Pharmaceutical Process Automation (2020–2023) and has supervised multiple PhD theses within the Doctoral Program “Electronics: Advanced Electronic Systems. Intelligent Systems.”. From 2013 to 2019, she served as Head of the Electronics Department. She has broad experience in multidisciplinary collaborations across bioengineering, computer vision, and natural language processing (NLP), and is an active promoter of STEM outreach and education..


Roberto López Sastre is Associate Professor at the University of Alcalá with a strong research background in computer vision, robotics, and AI for assistive technologies. He has led and participated in numerous national and European projects, including AI-based traffic safety, intelligent mobility, and cognitive scene interpretation. His applied research has generated 4 patents and multiple collaborations with companies and institutions, such as Telefónica, DGT, and European H2020 programs. He has also co-founded a technology-based company (Tecnoidea) and a foundation (Padrino Tecnológico) to transfer AI solutions to society. He holds a current research sexennium (2019–2024)

Telecommunication Engineer and PhD in Telecommunication Engineering (Cum Laude, International Doctorate, UAH, 2018), awarded the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize. She has published 23 JCR-indexed papers (14 Q1) and over 15 conference contributions, including work from a research stay at the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. Her research focuses on big data analysis, soft computing, and machine learning applications in renewable energy, facility management, meteorology, and climate challenges. She has participated in 11 research projects, including one European project. She is currently Permanent Lecturer at UAH, accredited by ANECA as Associate Professor (Profesor Titular de Universidad).

Associate Professor at the University of Alcalá (accredited as Full Professor) and PhD in Telecommunication Engineering (UAH). With over 25 years of teaching experience, he has led and participated in more than 40 national and European research projects. His research applies AI, machine learning, and optimization to intelligent traffic management, digital twins for logistics, and evacuation systems. He has published over 100 scientific works, supervised four PhD theses (and currently directs three), and completed a postdoctoral stay at MIT on complex systems optimization. He co-directs two industry research chairs with Masmovil/Orange and AXPO, bridging AI research with industry applications.

Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Alcalá and PhD in Electrical Engineering (UAH, 2009). His research focuses on the application of artificial intelligence techniques in engineering and science, including biosensors, multisensory analysis, and smart energy systems. He has participated in 39 public research projects and 14 industry contracts, acting as PI in several of them. His work includes AI applied to digital twins, robotics for functional diversity, and intelligent electrical networks. He also co-founded a technology-based company (Tecnoidea) and the Padrino Tecnológico foundation, combining research, innovation, and transfer.

Telecommunications Engineer (UPM) and PhD in Telecommunications (UAH), currently Assistant Professor at UAH. He has over 17 years of teaching experience in undergraduate and master’s programs, and has also taught at EOI and UAH postgraduate courses. With a long career in industry, he has held senior management roles in companies such as AXPO IBERIA, MASMOVIL, Securitas Direct, and IAP-Solutions. His research focuses on intelligent traffic systems, digital twins, evacuation systems, and AI-based optimization, with 15 JCR publications and ongoing PhD supervisions. He co-directs research chairs with Masmovil/Orange and AXPO, and participates in national and European AI projects.

Associate Professor at the University of Alcalá and PhD in Physics (University of Nottingham, UK). With a strong background in electromagnetic scattering, radar, and Earth Observation, he has worked at ESA and the German Aerospace Center (DLR). His research includes applying AI and advanced modelling to radar remote sensing, microwave tomography, and intelligent evacuation systems using Ultra-WideBand + B5G technologies. He has led and participated in numerous European and national projects, collaborating with ESA, Airbus Space and Defence, and INDRA. He has over 1,300 citations and extensive experience in international research and technology transfer.

Associate Professor at the University of Alcalá and PhD in Telecommunication Engineering (UAH), awarded the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize and IEEE-ITSS Best Thesis in Intelligent Transportation Systems. His research centres on computer vision and AI applications in intelligent transportation, assistive robotics, surveillance, and forensic sciences. He has published 15 JCR-indexed papers (Q1/Q2), more than 30 conference contributions, and holds 3 patents. Associate Professor at the University of Alcalá, specialising in electromagnetism, optics, and systems engineering. His research applies model-based systems engineering and AI techniques to areas such as electromagnetic compatibility, wireless power transfer, and biomedical microdevices. He has published extensively in international journals including Systems EngineeringSensors, and IEEE Transactions on Nanotechnology. He has contributed to national and European projects involving optimisation, modelling, and intelligent systems. At UAH, he integrates his expertise with AI methods to address real engineering and industrial challenges.

holds a PhD in Engineering (UNED), an MSc in Computing Research (UCM), and degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science. With over 23 years of experience at CIEMAT’s National Fusion Laboratory, he has specialised in machine learning, feature selection, and pattern recognition applied to nuclear fusion data from major international facilities. He has collaborated with JET (UK), DIII-D and NSTX (USA), and ITER (France). At UAH, he is Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering, teaching areas such as Mechanical Systems and Strength of Materials. He has supervised several theses and projects and is accredited by ANECA as Profesor Contratado Doctor.

Associate Professor at the University of Alcalá, specialising in telecommunications and digital communications. His research applies AI and IoT solutions to areas such as intelligent health, biomedical signal analysis, and indoor localization. He has coordinated and participated in multiple funded projects, including work on optical wireless communications, ECG imaging, and distributed sensing. He has collaborated internationally with institutions in Italy, Canada, Serbia, Switzerland, and Spain. Luis Muñoz González is an AI specialist with over 15 years of experience in academia and industry. He holds a PhD in Machine Learning from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and spent more than 8 years as a Research Associate at Imperial College London. His research focuses on developing secure and trustworthy AI systems—ranging from identifying weaknesses and vulnerabilities in AI models to designing mechanisms that enhance their reliability. He has led and contributed to international projects involving academia, industry, and government, bridging theory and applied research to generate practical impact in AI security and trustworthiness.

PhD in Industrial Engineering (Cum Laude, Extraordinary Doctorate Award, University of Valladolid, 2024). He has published 20 indexed scientific papers (13 Q1, 4 Q2) with 219 citations (h-index 9) and presented at 10 international conferences. His research focuses on machine learning methods applied to renewable energy and structural vibration engineering. He has participated in 4 research projects, 3 industry contracts, and spent 9 months in research stays at institutions such as Yale University, CMCC, and University of Maribor. He is currently Assistant Professor at the University of Alcalá.
